The importance of english language in project management
Know you the importance of speak, write and listen in english for manage projects?
In actual days, IT projects are made by people that are in worldwide. The manager is from Brazil, team of development are in India and are business analysts in China, Ireland and Australia. How these professionals if communicate, for this project happen? In english, of course!
The brazilian professional need learning english. Many invest your money only in “technical know”, but forget that the market have a lot of mens and womens with this know-how, but few talk in another language.
Even to study project management, english is required. The best books and articles are written in english.
English isn’t a diferencial, but a need for present times. With the globalization, companies came to Brazil and opened subsidiaries, for example, Carrefour, Danone, Santander, Citibank, Renault and others. Some projects of portfolio of the Brazilian divisions are managed by the office in the origin country, or are managed in Brazil but is required send status report and make call conferences.
What the language you will use to work these projects? Yes, is the english.
Why? Because it is the universal language. The spanish is very important too, but english is the principal.
Lot of Brazilian companies too export your products and services for many countries. If the company who work sell a ERP system for the China, for example, and send you for deploy the system, what language will speak with de professionals of the customer?
You send the project plan in portuguese for the Irish customer?
Learn english for ensure your present, future and your fun.
PS. I started study english in this month (March 2010). Work now in a french company. The english is required. Sorry for my very basic and wrong english. I promise improve in the next months
